Thanks so much for this information. I haven't really used makeup for a long time now because of animal testing and it's hard to find makeup that isn't. Maybe now I can wear makeup and feel pretty again! yay! (:

Do you know if there are stores in Canada? or if it's a trustworthy/safe site to order from online?

I order online from them all the time. I've never had any problems, so I'd say they're trustworthy to buy from. And they have the best freebies. The other day I got ten mineral eyeshadows for free! Love them!

I called the customer service number listed on ELF's website and was told their products are not tested on animals (hence the PETA certification). I asked if any of their products have entirely vegan ingredients and was told that "none of their products are suitable for vegans."

(please feel free to contact a Customer Service Representative either via telephone Monday - Friday 9am-6pm EST at 212.239.1530)

I don't wear makeup but I do like lip balms. I usually just use shea butter on my lips but the tub is too big for my purse so I get the 'lip shimmers' by Kuumba Made from vegan essentials and it's really good stuff.

Thank you for making that call! In that case, the product information in their FAQ section urgently needs to be updated.

Did they say why? I just e-mailed them and asked if their products are suitable for vegans. Here is the response I recieved.

Quote:
Thank you for your interest in e.l.f. cosmetics. We do not test on animals or endorse such practices. Our products do not contain animal derived ingredients. Our products do not contain carmine. We currently support PETA and are partners with PETA in the Caring Consumer Project. Please see our philosophy page for further explanation on our company.
All of our brushes in our e.l.f. line are made from natural horse hair and genuine wood handles. Our brushes in our studio line are made of anti bacterial, synthetic haired Taklon and may be used with either wet or dry products.
We do not disclose our ingredients via email. You can find all e.l.f. ingredients indicated on the packaging of our products as well as on our website. All ingredients used in e.l.f. cosmetics are safe and meet F.D.A requirements. Although some of the other ingredient names in our products used to be derived from animals, they are now derived from synthetic ingredients, however, the names have remained the same. Paraben is used as a preservative in some of our products, although our mineral line is paraben free. Please feel free to contact us with any other questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
the e.l.f. team

I haven't spent much time looking at the ingredients on their products (I did notice though that the chapstick I bought used synthetic beeswax), but it sounds like they should be fine for vegans, minus the studio line brushes.

I called again today and waited on the phone while they sent me this email:

Thank you for your interest in ELF Cosmetics. Since there is not one definitive list of acceptable ingredients for vegans and because we do not wish to give any incorrect information, we cannot confirm that our products are acceptable for vegan usage at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Sincerely,

The elf Team

I found that 'Kiss my Face' has a line of "Beauty" products and are available in many grocery stores. I called to verify the information on their website is correct by asking them to send written verification and they mailed written verification to me.
